Project 2 - Professional Website

(20 % of grade)

TASK: Develop and publish a web site for a business or nonprofit organization. First, you must find a client that needs a website to be both created and published. If the business is not committed to actually publishing it as their official website, they have to allow you to publish it with a free hosting company long enough for it to be graded.

Minimum Requirements

At least 6 pages.
Include an external style sheet, and use it often on your pages.
Include Key Word and Content metatags on each page.
Include a form that has a useful purpose, such as a feedback form. The form must include at minimum:
* Javascript that requires certain fields to be filled in.
* Scripting for processing the data (other than action="mailto")
Adhere to all of the design rules and guides that were covered in class.
Intrapage links (Anchors and targets) on pages that are longer that 1 screen.
The company's e-mail address that works with the domain of the website. You may have to set this up yourself.
An e-mail address of the webmaster (that's you).
The following two pages must be validated:
- About/History
- Contact Us
The site must meet accessibility standards as we will discuss in class. (in compliance with www.section508.gov)
Proper HTML coding. Also include comments occasionally. (Of course, you may use an HTML editor)
Your site must be viewable at different resolutions, and in different browsers without significant differences.

How to submit: Link the assignment to homework.htm. It does not matter if the file type is word processing, PDF, or HTML.

Friday Oct. 19	Find and interview client	Submit a report that details the following: * Name of organization and contact person * Type of site and purpose * Audience description * Industry description * Plans/desires for promoting * Plans/desires for maintaining As a guide, the length should be about 1 page of text and headings. However, the substance is more important than the length. FYI: If you want a more detailed guide, for your personal use, you can use this MS Word file .
Friday Nov. 3	Create a site map	There are freeware programs that will generate a site map. Or, you can lay it out in MS Word or PowerPoint's Organizations chart.
Friday Nov. 17	Develop a prototype	Create a template of the home page. If the subpages are different, include their template also.
Monday Nov. 27	Completed site	Complete and publish to your client's hosting company. Be sure to link correctly on your homework.htm page so that I can access it. .
Note: The interview, site map, and prototype will count as a homework assignments.
