Module 7: More Principles and Photoshop

Adobe Photoshop

As we learned with InDesign, Adobe no longer provides 30 days, but only 7 days of the free trial for each software. Since this is a lightweight introduction to Photoshop, it's probably a good idea to hold off on downloading Photoshop until you reach a chapter that requires a lot of work and concentration. Instead, I'd suggest using the computer lab.

Either way, when you get ready to download Photoship, Open your Adobe Creative Cloud Application and choose Install for Photoshop.

By the way, if you happen to have an older version of Photoshop, it will do for these exercises.

Module 2: Conceptual Focus

VoiceThread

VoiceThread is similar to PowerPoint in that it can be used as a presentation software. However, it is more than that because it allows for 2-way communication and thus sharing. A quick and dirty way to summarize it is that it is interactive in that you can comment on someone's presentation and vice versa.

More formally, it is described as "an online media album that can hold essentially any type of media (images, documents, and videos) and allows people to make comments in 5 different ways - using voice (with a microphone or telephone), text, audio file, or video (with a webcam) - and share them with anyone they wish. A number of the presentations in this course will be created using Voicethread. We encourage you to contribute to the community of this course by posting comments to the Voicethreads."

You will first interact with it in this module by commenting on the instructor's presentation. However, I encourage you to use it as well for presentations.

How to access: I will provide you with links to specific videos. However, to create your own, you can access VoiceThread from OAKS. Go to any of your courses, and click it on the right side of your screen:

Module 1: Orientation

OAKS

As you expected, you will be using OAKS as the major system for taking the course.  It has been upgraded for the betterment over the holiday.  However, you may encounter a few more questions than you would otherwise.  Please allow yourself a little more time as you become aquainted with the new features and slight operational differences.  I will try to alert you to things that may be in different places or look new.  In addition, the Technical Question Discussion Forum for the class can be useful for posing questions to me and classmates.

PowToon

Use: PowToon is an online tool that allows you to create slideshows and movies.  You will use it to make a fun and engaging video introducing yourself to the class.

YouTube (Optional for this module)

During the semester, you will use YouTube several times in order to share designs with the class. You will need to use your CofC email for these videos. Don't worry, we can keep them separate and private if you already have activity branding going on with your CofC account. For this module, if you wish to share your PowToon video on your YouTube channel, you can do so.
